I’m interrupting this craft blog with a little non-crafty giveaway: my husband’s new cookbook! It is available at bookstores now, and he will be promoting it tomorrow morning (Monday) on Good Morning America! So please tune in between 8:30 and 9, and leave a comment below if you’d like to win the book. Of course I’m biased, but it is a great book. My husband is the national food editor for The Associated Press, and the basic idea of the book is using high-flavor ingredients to do the heavy lifting, instead of complicated techniques. I’ll pick a winner Wednesday morning.
For extra chances to win, do any or all of the following:
_ let me know that you are a subscriber to my blog
_ let me know that you are a subscriber to my husband’s blog
_ give me an idea for a cooking/eating/kitchen-related craft or sewing project. We’re probably going to be giving away some copies of the book as Christmas gifts, and I’d like to make a little something to go with them
UPDATE: There’s still plenty of time to enter the giveaway. Here’s his appearance on GMA:
I subscribe to your blog!
and I’d LOVE this book!
and I have 2 ideas for accompanying gifts:
1) vintage-y kitchen towels… my LFS has dishcloth material by the yard, hemmed on both sides, and then I choose a fabric to add a ruffle to the ends. fast and easy and fun!
2) food pin-cushions/toys… my pincushions always get turned into toys. I love a variety, not just a tomato/strawberry, but lots of different fruit and foods….
I subscribe..you are even on my I heart list on my blog page! 🙂
just checked out your husbands blog and my mouth literally watered…
you could wrap it up in a gorgeous handmade apron or tea towel…pot holders oh I know! a (cool style) fabric book cover to protect the cook book from inevitable spills while using
This looks like an awesome book – I’d love to have a copy. I am a blog subscriber for your blog. I think that hot pads or an apron tied up with the book and a few utensils would make a great gift! Or cloth napkins?
I would love to win the book! It would be nice paired with knit or crochet dish cloths or a handmade market bag.

This cookbook looks like a fabulous idea!
(You could give it away to friends with some non-persiable food item that is called for in the recipe or pot holders or a whisk or some kitchen related item).
I subscibe to your blog via google reader.
What a great book. I like cookbook bookmarks- you can just flip to the recipe that you like. Thanks for the chance.

I’d love to win – I just started reading his blog last week – love them both. As for presents – we love to make and decorate salt dough cookie ornaments – an oldie but a goodie.
Hi! I’m subscribed to your blog via Google Reader (RSS, I think)?
If it were me, I’d stitch up some quick, cute re-usable bags, in the shape of an envelope (with button closure) or a clutch (with zipper, maybe), and use THAT to gift wrap the book. Two gifts in one, right? 🙂
I think I’m a follower? I get the RSS feed at any rate.
Anyway, I would go with a set of cotton napkins that they can easily wash (i.e. nothing finiky) with just a smudge of embroidery. Maybe the last initial?
Count me in! Good luck to your husband tomorrow!

And finally, I’m happy to report that I now follow your husband’s blog too! Crafting and cooking are my two favorite things, so you two are quite the dynamic duo as far as I’m concerned… 🙂

You blog has been in my google reader for half a year now! One of my first inspirations in getting me started with sewing! This book is just what I need! I currently dread, and almost hate, cooking because my family are all so picky… in terms of really only liking stuff made from scratch (which take so long… and I have 3 kids under 5… so not really an option here). If this book can make my life easier and help me actually enjoy the process of making food that my family will enjoy eating… it would be such a gift!
Didn’t know your husband had a food blog! Definitely subscribing to that!
Hmmm… so many options here… personalized placemats, aprons for the cook or whole family, reusable shopping bags, stationary for menu planning or grocery list making, a restaurant style menu that lists all the items you can make from the book so that the family can help pick out what they want to try…
Wow this cookbook looks really good!!! If I don’t win it I will definitely buy it!
I’d love to win this book. Sorry I missed your husband promoting the book this morning but I had to work.

A great craft project to add to the cookbook Christmas gift would be an Apron with their family name embroidered on it.
Looks really good! I am all about low labor…!
Thanks!

And I just subscribed to your husband’s blog. He’s a very entertaining writer. Makes sense, given that he’s a food editor for the AP =)
As for gifts – napkins are nice, if you have a serger so that hemming them is easy. And there’s always aprons. And I’ve seen some neat ceramic pieces that are made to go under hot dishes (not sure what their official name is.
